Teen Goes Viral After Posting Tweet from an LG Smart Fridge

If you can’t use your smartphone, try tweeting via an iPod….or a gaming device…or a refrigerator.

It just goes to show that where there is a will, there is a way. It also shows just how connected all our electronics have become.

According to CBS News, a 15-year-old girl from Kentucky named Dorothy was cooking some rice at home, but was distracted by her phone when a fire broke out on the stovetop. As a consequence, her mom decided to confiscate her phone for a while. I can imagine the horror as it was being pried from her fingers.

As a typical teenager, Dorothy couldn’t comprehend the thought of being disconnected from her peers, even for a few days. Plus, she runs a small Ariana Grande fan account, so the world might literally end if she didn’t post the latest on her favorite pop star. In a flash of brilliance, she tweeted the news of her persecution from her Nintendo DS, a by-gone relic from her childhood, but a very handy fix for a social media-addicted teenager.

Apparently, her mom caught on to what she had done and, in a move to make sure it didn’t happen again, confiscated the Nintendo DS. To add insult to injury, (and in a classic mom move), she posted a farewell note from her daughter’s Twitter account:

But that didn’t stop Dorothy. Nope. Experiencing what was surely a connectivity withdrawal of epic proportions, she had the bright idea to check on the online capabilities of her Nintendo Wii. Sure, she hadn’t played Wii golf or bowling since she was eight, but maybe she could find a way to connect with Twitter on that dusty game console in her family room. Yep.

"hey guys omg. my mom is at work so i'm looking for my phone. wish me luck. lov u," she hastily tweeted from the Wii. Though she never found her phone (go, mom!) she did find the DS again. She was determined to stay connected. After all, the messages she was putting out there were critical to the survival of mankind.

After wising up to what Dorothy was doing via her old video game consoles, she confiscated the devices once again. But that can’t stop a determined teenager. Apparently, she got her hands on her cousin’s old iPod and used it to Tweet the following:

"I don't have a charger though so i can't be long.”

Once mom got wise to that device, it was confiscated, as well. This poor (dare I say abused?) teenager was out of options. That’s when she saw her family’s hi-end smart fridge. "My mom uses it to google recipes for baking so I just googled Twitter," she told CBS News.

The tech-savvy teen used voice command on the fridge to send the tweet seen around the world: "I do not know if this is going to tweet I am talking to my fridge what the heck my Mom confiscated all of my electronics again."

I can just picture this girl dictating her message into her fridge like she’s a martyr speaking her last words before being shipped off to a secret prison somewhere. It’s just incredible that this is a thing. But a thing, it is.

“The Tale of the Persistent Teenage Girl” should remind parents of few things:

1. It should remind us that our kids can easily become addicted to their online connections. Has any parent every taken away their teenager’s smartphone and have their kid go quietly? No? I didn’t think so. Be on the lookout for your kids becoming too dependent on technology. It’s probably happening to them right now.

2. It should remind us that EVERYTHING electronic can likely be connected to the online world. You can tweet from a fridge, but you can also find porn on Pinterest and chat with strangers on a handheld gaming device. It’s a ton of work, but we have to stay on top of this stuff. Explore our site for some help.

3. It should remind us that Arianna Grande is NOT a menu item at Taco Bell. She is an important voice of a generation and her fans need to know what she is wearing to the VMA’s and THEY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW!!!
